Penguins Trade Ben Lovejoy to Anaheim, Recall Dylan Reese

The Penguins traded D Ben Lovejoy to the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday in exchange for a fifth-round pick. Lovejoy signed with the Penguins as an undrafted free agent and got his first full-time NHL bid in 2010 alongside Deryk Engelland.

Lovejoy had been passed on the depth chart by rookie defensemen Simon Despres and Robert Bortuzzo, players who have long been a part of the Penguins’ great defensive prospect pool and who have established themselves in Pittsburgh in Matt Niskanen’s absence.

With the move, the Penguins recalled Pittsburgh native Dylan Reese from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL. Reese, 28, has 74 games of NHL experience with the New York Islanders. In 39 games with WBS this season, Reese leads all Baby Penguins defensemen in scoring (3-12-15).

Reese will get his first Penguins action Thursday night, filling in for an injured Kris Letang.
