Penguins Precap 2 – New York Rangers

Big game against the Rangers, who are coming off a 3-1 defeat in Boston Saturday. Pittsburgh got a jump on the division with their own 3-1 final in Philadelphia. They can move to an early division lead and see both the Rangers and Flyers off to 0-2 starts to the season (Philly lost to Buffalo early Sunday).

Rick Nash is the big catch in New York. He assisted on the only Rangers goal in Saturday’s game at Boston.

For Pittsburgh, Tomas Vokoun will get his first start as a Penguin. His acquisition was a surprise last summer, but the shortened season and compacted schedule (in addition to Fleury’s playoff hiccup) made the move look great on paper.

Pittsburgh went 4-2 against the Rangers in six games last season, winning their last four meetings and scoring a total of 16 goals in that span.

The Rangers are favored by many to win the East, but Pittsburgh gave them fits last season. It’ll be interesting to see if Rick Nash can make the difference in New York or if Pittsburgh can get off to a perfect start with four road points against their toughest division competition.

Tomas Vokoun

Time to see if Shero saw into the future with the Vokoun deal.
