Penguins News: NHL Training Camps to Open Sunday,1/8/13 Media Scrum (Audio)
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, NHL training camps will open Sunday, January 13.
The first regular season games are still set to take place Saturday, January 19. Clubs will have just six days of formal practices and zero preseason games to help evaluate which of their players are best suited to get hurt in an exhibition game.
Formal schedules have not been released and won’t be finalized until the end of the week. The NHL Board of Governors (many members of which are reportedly furious with Gary Bettman’s concessions to Donald Fehr and the NHLPA) will hold a vote to ratify the new CBA Wednesday, January 9, at which point schedules can be announced.
The players’ union will put the document to a vote this Saturday.
According to the Trib, the Penguins are reportedly opening their season against the Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.
